Trevor Strnad’s Cause of Death Relates to Suicide

According to the details of The Black Dahlia Murder’s statement, vocalist Trevor Strnad’s cause of death is related to suicide. May he rest in peace.

In 2001, Strnad founded the melodic death metal group in Michigan and remained its frontman until his death. Over the course of 20 years, the group gained a large following and earned acclaim in metal circles with 9 studio albums.

The band’s name is derived from the 1947 unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, referred to as Black Dahlia. The band currently includes rhythm guitarist Brian Eschbach, drummer Alan Cassidy, bassist Max Lavelle, and lead guitarist Brandon Ellis.

The band released their demo entitled What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse, and also a four-track EP, A Cold-Blooded Epitaph. After starring in concerts such as the Milwaukee Metal Fest, They signed to Metal Blade Records in 2003.

Bassist Ryan Williams left his former band, Detroit’s Today I Wait, in order to tour with the Black Dahlia Murder. Then, Bart joined the group full-time, replacing former bassist David Lock.

Frontman Strnad said that David Lock was fired for incompetency. Bart was one of two engineers on the band’s first full-length album, Unhallowed.

Their second album Miasma was released in July 2005 and peaked at No. 118 on the Billboard 200. After touring for Miasma, drummer Zach Gibson left the group along with Pierre Langlois.

While Zach Gibson went on to join Abigail Williams, Pierre Langlois left the group for a more secure lifestyle, and the band replaced former All That Remains drummer, Shannon Lucas. The band played at Ozzfest 2005.

Out of the eight studio albums the band has released to date, the last seven have charted on the U.S. Billboard 200. In 2011, the band’s fifth album Ritual peaked at No. 31, marking the group as one of the most popular contemporary American extreme metal bands.

The band’s most recent album, Verminous, was released on April 17, 2020. Once asked by the site Pyro Music to describe the band’s sound, Trevor responded, “I’ve always said that we’re melodic death metal. We are mostly influenced by Swedish bands and Carcass.”

He continued: “The heavy end of our sound is the American style creeping in, with some Floridian influences like Morbid Angel, Malevolent Creation, and that kind of stuff.”

In the comments section of the Black Dahlia Murder’s Instagram post, Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe, Judas Priest’s Rob Halford, and others shared broken heart emojis and other expressions of sadness.

Jamey Jasta tweeted, “RIP Trevor Strnad, you’ll be missed dearly, my deepest condolences to TDBM, his family, friends & fans. Thanks for all the laughs, the stories, the music, & so much more.”
