Romanian Actress Valeria Seciu’s Death; Won’t be Forgotten

We are saddened to announce to you Valeria Seciu’s death on September 6, 2022, at the age of 83. She was one of the great theatre and film actresses of her generation who passed away after a long battle with cancer. May she rest in peace.

After being graduated from university, Valeria started her acting career on the stage of the National Theatre in Bucharest with the role of Veronica Micle, in the show “Eminescu”. The show was directed by Sică Alexandrescu and Ion Caramitru, who was her partner on numerous other occasions.

Seciu was born on August 1, 1939, in Bucharest, and in 1964, the actress Valeria Seciu graduated from the Faculty of Theatre at the Institute of Theatrical and Cinematographic Art.

A while after that, in 1978, she got a job at the Small Theatre in Bucharest, after playing at the theatre in Cluj and playing on the stage of the “I.L. Caragiale” National Theatre in Bucharest. She played in shows like:

• “The Enigma of Hostility”
• “The Idiot”
• “Who is afraid of Virginia Wolf?”
• “King Lear”
• “Richard III”
• “The Starry Sky Above Us”
• “The Glass Menagerie”
• “Hamlet”
• “The Idiot”
• “Razvan and the Otter”
• “Sunset”

At that time, he participated in the class of Professor A. Pop Martian, assistant Octavian Cotescu, with the part of Rosalinda in the show play “How you like it”, directed by Octavian Cotescu.

Seciu was married in 1966 to the actor Octavian Cotescu who was her former student. The couple had one child together who is name was Alexandru Cotescu. He became a monk and retired to the Vatoped Monastery, on Mount Athos, where he is known as the monk Daniil.

After the death of her husband in 1985, Valeria Seciu dedicated herself to the stage and continued to perform in numerous shows.

Reason Behind Valeria Seciu’s Death

Valeria Seciu passed away, and the disease she had been battling for years was cancer. The news about Valeria Seciu’s death was announced by UNITER this morning.

“I found out with sadness that on the morning of September 6, the extraordinary actress of theater, film, radio, and television, VALERIA SECIU, left us. We’ll be back tomorrow with details of the funeral. God forgive her and rest her,” is the message of UNITER, posted on her Facebook page.

Familia Regala Romania shared on social media: “His Majesty the Custodian of the Crown and Prince Radu found out with sadness the news of the passing to the Lord of the great actress Valeria Seciu, one of the landmarks of the Romanian stage art in the last half a century. In 2015, she received the Royal Decoration Nihil Sine Deo.”
