Did Accident Become Racer Walter Penker’s Cause of Death?


The tragedy behind Austrian motor racing pioneer Walter Penker’s cause of death has been clarified after he reportedly passed away last night (September 6, 2021) at the age of 74. May he rest in peace.

The heartbreaking news has been confirmed by some official sources. Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung announced the passing news in a statement, publishing on September 7.

The statement partly read, “The former racing driver and team boss knew and promoted numerous greats in motorsport. Pinker’s book “70 years of petrol in the blood and 40 years in motorsport”, which was released in 2018, is a reminder of this.”

Lechner Racing also wrote in a tweet, “We are deeply saddened by the news that Austrian motor racing pioneer Walter Penker passed away last night. #RIPwalter – we and the whole motorsport world will dearly miss you!”

The legend was born in Carinthia, and then in his youth, he dedicated his life to motorsport and therefore soon discovered his heart of life in the Murtal, near the Österreichring. 

Walter was a racing driver and himself team boss. However, what was even more significant: he found his life’s purpose in improving his motorsport talents. “He was a luminary in his field and was always up to date with the latest technology,” his companions announced.

Official reports announced Walter Penker’s cause of death as a fall, causing deep sadness in the region. meinbezirk wrote that “The motorsport legend died on September 6th at the age of 74 after a serious fall.”

In recent years, Penker completed his racing simulator in the VW Beetle Museum in the Gaal. There he discovered not only many regional talents under his support but also trained international stars.

Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel was only one of the famous users of his training. He also had another great passion: the game of golf. Walter Penker will live in our memories for many friends, companions, and talents.

Good to know, Rob Nguyen had a test run in a Formula Opel car at a racing school operated by Walter Penker. His first-ever run in a racing car was awesome enough for Penker to encourage him to participate in a full season of German Formula VW in 2001.

Racing under a Swiss license, he ended fifth in the last championship standings, with two podium ends and a pole position. Penker systematized a Formula 3000 test with the Team Astromega, and Nguyen was immediately signed for 2002.
