According to Law enforcement sources’ reports, John was discovered unresponsive in a hotel room on Friday in San Antonio and however the cause of death is pending an autopsy, his death does not seem natural at all.
His family confirmed the heartbreaking news, stating, “With a heavy heart, Gordon Getty announces the death of his son, John Gilbert Getty.” The spokesperson adds, “John was a talented musician who loved rock and roll. He will be deeply missed.”
The Getty family fortune is estimated to value 5.4 billion dollars $ in 2015, as reported by Forbes, and there are still many living heirs between children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
After his death, John Gilbert is survived by his only daughter, Ivy Getty, and his brothers, Peter and Billy.
John Gilbert Getty’s Death, Another Tragedy in the Family
It’s not the first tragedy that the Getty family faced. 5 years ago, John’s other brother, Andrew, passed away at age 47from meth intoxication, as his dead body was found naked on a floor near the bathroom of his Hollywood Hills mansion.
When officials arrived at the scene, found Andrew Getty who was partly naked and bleeding from “traumatic injury to the rectal area” following “not feeling well” for months beforehand.
Additionally, John’s mother, Ann, who was a famous philanthropist in San Francisco, died after suffering a heart attack just this September at the age of 79.
Following the death of Ann Getty, her family released an announcement, saying, “Though the Gettys traveled the world attending numerous music and arts festivals, Mrs. Getty was a great San Franciscan who treasured spending time with her extended family, whether attending opening night at the San Francisco Symphony or the San Francisco Giants season home opener at Oracle Park… Generosity, in friendship and philanthropy, was a hallmark of Mrs. Getty, who opened the family home to numerous fundraisers supporting a range of nonprofits.”

On Sunday, John Gilbert Getty’s 25-year-old daughter, Ivy Getty, posted a series of old to new photos of the father-daughter pair. and captioned, “I hate to post something so soon, but people have taken it upon themselves to share the news I wish I could have released myself. I’ll write something better later.”

She added, “my father was awesome- coolest man to ever land on this planet and I will forever be the proudest daughter. Love you so much Dad….life is cruel sometimes…. I have not one, but two guardian angels watching over me now…here are some of my favorite pictures of him (and selfishly a couple of us)”
Then on Monday, Ivy Getty tribute her father in her Instagram stories by sharing several photos with fun facts about her late dad. She wrote, “My dad would absolutely love if I shared photos of him and talked about how much he meant to me so I am doing that.”

John Gilbert Getty’s family, friends, and fans reacted to his death news by commenting on her daughter post.
Son of Ariadne Getty, August Getty, who was the granddaughter of the late family patriarch, wrote a supportive comment on the post, stating, “Two beautiful angels, I love you so much.”
His sister Nats Getty also left a comment, writing, “Love you ivy.”

On Facebook, Gigi Gaston, daughter of the fifth wife of the late oil tycoon reacted to John Gilbert Getty’s suspicious death by posting her condolences: “I just heard my dear John Getty passed! I love you John! No birthday will ever be the same – my life won’t! I love you,” she continued, “Rest in Peace.”
Also John’s family released a statement, saying: “With a heavy heart, Gordon Getty announces the death of his son, John Gilbert Getty.”
It added, “John leaves behind his daughter, Ivy Getty, whom he loved beyond measure, and his brothers Peter and Billy. His brother, Andrew, predeceased John. John’s mother, Ann Gilbert Getty, passed this September. John was a talented musician who loved rock and roll. He will be deeply missed”
Who is John Gilbert Getty’s Father, Gordon Getty?
Gordon, John’s father, was a classical musician and philanthropist who assisted facilitate the sale of his father’s business, Getty Oil after the billionaire died in 1973.
He is one the benefactor of the family’s $4.1 billion trust, later orchestrated splitting the trust into six separate trusts. Forbes reported Gordon’s net worth of about $2.1 billion.
Gordon went on to found PlumpJack Winery with California Gov. Gavin Newsom in 1995.
A rep for Gordon didn’t respond to request for comment yet.

Jean-Paul Getty, known as J. Paul Getty, was an American-born British petrol-industrialist and the Getty family’s patriarch. He was born on December 15, 1892, and died on June 6, 1976.
Getty was born in a Christian Scottish American family in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and was raised by his parents as a Methodist. His father was a devout Christian Scientist.
