Westroads Mall Omaha Officer-Involved Shooting: Police Injured

The Westroads Mall Omaha officer-involved shooting ended with an officer in the hospital in critical condition on Friday afternoon, March 12.

Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said that two officers were responded to a shoplifting report at JC Penney. A struggle started, shots were fired, and one officer was shot. Schmaderer said the suspect remains at large.
Nebraska State Patrol troopers pursued a vehicle headed west on I-80 at about 5:30 p.m. According to the traffic scanner, the car was driving 145 mph, and stop sticks were in the rule of being set up.
The male officer, whose identity is not clear now, was taken to Nebraska Medical Center.
It is not clearly announced how many bullets were involved, but the officer had been wounded and rushed to the hospital. Police said they were working to confirm information before releasing it to the public.
The suspect was described as a Black male who was taken into custody following a high-speed chase after the Omaha officer-involved shooting.
The Omaha Police Department separately announced on Twitter that the injured officer’s condition was stable and that Nebraska State Patrol had taken a suspect into custody.
Westroads Mall Omaha Shooting Led to Injury of a Police
A help an officer report went out at about 4 p.m. Friday. An officer reported that he needs an ambulance at the JC Penney security office after an Omaha officer-involved shooting.

Authorities called the Omaha Police helicopter Able 1 supported looking for a suspect, who fled toward Dick’s Sporting Goods. All parking lots around the mall were completely blocked off.
Officers set up a wide boundary around Westroads Mall, 10000 California St., searching for a man in a blue hoodie and black jeans reported to have fled on foot.
State police said they were investigating on Highway 6 east of Lincoln, the state’s capital. The two cities are roughly 60 miles apart.
Video of the mall shared on social media shows a large police presence with officers unrolling yellow tape around a mall section.
Omaha Crimestoppers stated it offered a $10,000 reward for a tip leading to the shooting suspect’s arrest. Anyone who has information about this shooting is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 402-444-STOP.
A mass shooting happened at Von Maur in the Westroads Mall in 2017. Eight people were killed, and the 19-year-old gunman shot and killed himself.
