The shooting happened near 143rd Street and Will Cook Road, Orland Park Police Department, announced it in a social media statement.

Orland Park Police Chief Joe Mitchell called this shooting a “targeted act,” in which a man, 23, and a woman, 31, were found shot multiple times.

When police arrived, the pair were both injured. The Orland Fire Protection District took both victims to a hospital in Oak Lawn with non-life-threatening injuries.

Approximately seven shots were fired from one vehicle into another, but no one at the Pinewood Drive KinderCare was injured, police said.

It is unclear where the incident started, but the chief said six shell casings were found at the scene. According to the police, the incident was likely “reported and isolated.”

The victims were transported to the Christ Medical Center to care. The identities of the two people who were injured in the shooting are not revealed yet.

A media report showed a crime scene outside KinderCare, at 14301 Pinewood Dr. Police spokesmen didn’t immediately return a call seeking further information.

According to the police, the shooter fled north on Will-Cook Road, possibly in a black Ford Fusion with spoke wheels and heavily tinted windows and no front license plate, heading north on Will Cook Road, police said.

Mitchell said the number of people in the suspect car was unknown as of Wednesday afternoon. “We believe this was an intentional targeted act,” he said.

The chief said the suspects are no longer in the area, and there is no immediate danger to the public.

Police ask anyone who has any information or had been in the area around 12:15 p.m. to call 708-349-4111.
