Queens’ Umbrella Hotel Shooting Becomes 1st NYC Violence 2021

Three men were seriously injured in a Queens’ Umbrella hotel shooting in Kew Gardens early Friday morning that marked the first homicide of 2021 in New York City.

Just an hour after The New Year shots were fired inside the Queens’ Umbrella Hotel in Kew Gardens, a hotel that also provides space to the homeless, near 82nd Ave. around 1:10 a.m., a block away from Queens Criminal Court, police announced.
The incident occurred when two groups squared off, based on what witnesses told police.
Two 20-year-old men and a 40-year-old man were hit in the fatal Umbrella hotel shooting.
New York City ended 2020 with a massive uptick in gun violence with a 97% rise in shootings as of Wednesday night compared to the same date a year earlier.

The 40-year-old victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he was in critical condition Friday morning. The third 20-year-old victim was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens and was expected to survive.
One 20-year-old victims was shot in his torso, police reported, while the 40-year-old one was shot in the torso, arms and legs. Another 20-year-old man was shot in the leg, according to officials.
EMS took one of the 20-year-old men to NYC Health & Hospitals/Queens, where he was pronounced dead, The 40-year-old man was transported to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition, and the second 20-year-old victim was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Queens in stable condition, police said.
Unfortunately, one of the 20-year-old victims passed away of his wounds at NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens.
Although there have been no arrests at this time, police are searching for a suspect. The shooting death is believed to be the first homicide of 2021.
