People called 911 just before 3 p.m. to report a shooting at the Budget 16 Motel in the 1000 block of Northeast Stephens Street, in Roseburg city, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Roseburg police spokesperson Jeff Eichenbusch said two of the victims are suffering from “very serious” injuries.

Witnesses from a nearby auto shop claimed that they heard up to seven gunshots, then saw a man appeared with a weapon and hit a car with the butt of his gun.

Eyewitnesses said he reappeared a few minutes later, holding two guns in the motel’s parking lot, but it is unclear where he got them.

One of Douglas County’s local newspapers quoted one witness who lives at the motel, saying the alleged shooter approached Room NO. 22 yelling, “Where’s the dope.”

The man then shot at multiple people with his gun, got a hunting rifle, and then was detained by two other people, the newspaper reported.

The victims’ condition is reported as life-threatening after the shooting, but at least one person died from gunshot wounds at Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg.

Eyewitness Edward Russell said, “I was dialing 911 and running to my friend and she was screaming, ‘I’ve been shot! I’ve been shot!”

“We were yelling that he was shooting people, and he started walking toward two people trying to talk to them,” Edward Russell said. “One of them just socked him in the face. They got him in a headlock and started kicking the shit out of him before the cops showed up.”

All the victims were sent to the hospital, but their conditions and identities are not announced yet. Eichenbusch said the suspect was taken into custody and then to the hospital for treatment.

According to reports, there is no more threat to the public, but the spokesperson for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office asked people to avoid the area.

An OK Auto Supply employee, directly across Northeast Stephens Street from the motel, claimed that their boss said they didn’t see anything, so they didn’t.

Officials are investigating the scene and doing interviews. Keep up with US day News for updates and further information.
