Delta Sigma Theta President Cheryl Hickmon’s Cause of Death Revealed

Many are asking about the elected president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Cheryl Hickmon’s cause of death after she lost her life on Thursday morning (January 21, 2022) at the age of about 50.

The shocking news was confirmed by the organization in a statement, released on Twitter, writing, “It is with great sorrow that Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. shares the passing of our beloved National President and Chair of the National Board of Directors, Cheryl A. Hickmon. President Hickmon transitioned peacefully on January 20, 2022, after a recent illness. #DST1913

Hickmon, a Hartford, Connecticut native, entered the Alpha Xi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta at SC State in 1982 and became Delta Sigma Theta’s 27th national president and the university’s first alumna to direct the national organization.

Graduating from S.C. State in 1984 and resumed her lifelong association, an active member for about 4 decades with the organization that has prided itself on goals and providing to others.

Although Hickmon had a busy professional life, DST was never far from her mind. With the experience she achieved in her initiating chapter, she successfully worked on a regional level.

Good to know, beloved Cheryl also worked as President of the Hartford Alumnae Chapter of Hartford, Connecticut for two terms. During her tenure, she focused on increasing fundraising to fund scholarships for students in the area. She also helped to bring in new members. She also served as Committee Chair in the chapter for several committees.

Cheryl Hickmon’s Cause of Death Reported as Illness

Although there is no official report about Cheryl Hickmon’s cause of death at this time, many are saying he died of an illness he was recently suffering from; as a source wrote, ” She died Thursday morning after battling a recent illness.”

Cheryl, a Golden Life member of Delta Sigma Theta, was selected as the 27th National President in November 2021. Since then, she became the first alumnus of South Carolina State University to hold the distinguished position after having been a member of the Hartford Alumnae Chapter.

Hickmon’s love for the sorority led her to additionally serve as Hartford Alumnae’s national vice president, national secretary, eastern regional director, South Atlantic regional representative, co-chair of the National Documents Review, and Revision Task Force, co-chair of the National Leadership Academy.
