Dawn Fidler’s Sudden Death Related to a Short-Time Illness
We are really sad to announce the founder and chief executive of the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumor Charity, Dawn Fidler’s death at the age of 44. Dawn, from Walshaw, Bury, reportedly died at home after a short illness in the early hours of Sunday morning, January 9, 2022.
In a Facebook post Dawn’s sister, Katy E F Barker, announced Dawn Fidler’s death news, writing: “On behalf of our Parents. It is with a broken heart that I announce the death of our beautiful sister Dawn Fidler. She was an incredible force of nature, driven by the love for her son. She was a kind, loving and charismatic woman loved by all that met her. She will forever be loved and cherished by her family and friends. Life just won’t be the same. We ask that you respect our privacy at this time. It’s not goodbye, just a see you later. Love you x.”
She was a campaigning mom whose tireless charity activities inspired by her son touched hearts across Greater Manchester.
Her young son Joshua, lovely known as ‘Super Josh’ was diagnosed with a brain stem tumor in 2004 when he was 3. Life-saving surgery to remove the tumor left him with serious post-surgery disabilities. He sadly died at the young age of 14 back in November 2014.
But through the activities of the charity and his mom, Joshua left a legacy that continues to help other children and young people with brain tumors and disabilities across Greater Manchester. Joshua was a hero and a great inspiration for many people.
She launched the Joshua Wilson charity on her son’s 13th birthday in 2013. She devoted her life to raising awareness and money, and helping to save lives, and won many awards in the process.
Former Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy is also a patron of this charity which aims to help other families living with childhood brain tumors and post-surgery disabilities.
According to its website, more than £900,000 has been raised since the charity’s launch, with more than 1,900 families helping.
