For those who may not know, Aslam became a member of the ABC13’s team in 2014 and started his job as an assistant news director. He later made his way through to be named vice president and news director in 2019.

In 2001, Rehan began his broadcasting career at WEWS-TV in Cleveland, Ohio. Later on, he started to produce at WJW-TV in Cleveland while executive produce at WFLD-TV in Chicago.

You’ll be surprised to know that Aslam was a 2009 Peabody Award Winner for his work on “The Derrion Albert Beating” story, besides being recognized as the recipient of the 2019-2020 Houston Media Alliance News Director of the Year Award.

As it’s told, Mr. Aslam was into storytelling, pursuing that passion by spending each day serving the diverse communities in Houston and New York.

He became the founding member of the ABC Owned Television Stations’ Houston Belong Committee. It is known to be a group that focuses on diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

In his belief, representation mattered in the stories that are told every day. Based on Wendy Granato, who is a General Manager of ABC13, his favorite saying was ‘always assume positive intent.’

“He applied that sense of hope and optimism to everything he did and everyone he met,” shared Granato.

Rehan Aslam’s cause of death due to cancer led all who knew him to experience a huge sorrow as he left this world behind. 🕊 Please keep his family and friends in your prayer.

Rehan landed his dream job in New York City almost a year ago. He was named Vice President and News Director at WABC, which according to websites, is known to be the number one station in the country.

It’s shared that Mr. Rehan was diagnosed with brain cancer only a few months into his new job. He was a great husband, father, son, brother, and friend. May he be easy in grace and love.

Eyewitness News announced: “Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of a beloved member of our Channel 7 Eyewitness News family, news director Rehan Aslam, who died following a year-long battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.”

Daniela Hurtado tweeted: “💔 Thinking a lot about my coworkers the last few days. Their former news director and friend, Rehan Aslam, passed away after a battle with cancer. He was praying for his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched. Rest easy. 🕊”

One wrote: “Unfortunate, sharing is the key. In today’s world all knowledge is open source Eg. Google Android etc. The only thing is who takes the lead with value addition.”
